What you need to think about before adopting a cat or a dog:
Thank you for showing interest in adopting an animal from Dominica!
You are here because you are considering fostering or adopting an animal from Dominica. While we encourage and support you to do so, there are some things that we ask you to read and take into consideration before doing so.
Why are you adopting/fostering this animal?
Puppies are sweet and adorable, but remember, they won't be a puppy forever. The puppy stage only lasts on average until it reaches 8 months old, then it enters the "teenager" phase, make sure that you are ready to dedicate the time, love, and effort it will take to raise and train the dog.
Why are you adopting/fostering this animal? Comfort? Companionship? These are important things to consider, as an animal owner you are committing to this animal for its entire life.
Have you ever owned a dog or cat before?
What sort of experience have you had with puppies/dogs/cats? (Allergies, training, etc.)
Do you have children?
What ages?
What responsibilities will they have with the animal?
Do your children know how to act appropriately with a dog or a cat?
Make sure you are able to have them meet the animal before bringing it home, this will give you and your family an idea of what to expect.
Are animals allowed?
Check with your landlord to see if they will allow a dog or cat. For your protection, please secure a pet agreement in writing from your landlord. Do not try to "sneak" an animal into your apartment. You will eventually get caught. Less and less landlords are allowing animals in their apartments in the Picard area because of irresponsible pet ownership.
